The Tibetan term Ting refers to the pealing sound of metal; it also means bronze or silver metal bell offered on a Buddhist altar. The term Sha means hanging or suspended.

Cymbals made of bronze alloy by Tibetan craftsmen. They are usually adorned with mantras or Buddhist symbols. When the two cymbals collide, a sharp sound is produced that lasts for a long time. In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Tinc-Chya are used in very special rituals.
